Cameron Maybin hit the first pitch of the game into the left-field seats, immediately ending Atlanta pitcher Tommy Hanson's streak of 47 2-3 innings without giving up a homer.

Cubs manager Lou Piniella stepped down after Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Braves. Chicago has named third base coach Mike Quade manager for the rest of the season. Quade has been with the Cubs’ organization for eight years. The remainder of the coaching staff will remain intact, the team announced Sunday. "When I previously announced my intentions to retire at the end of the season, a primary reason for my decision was that it would allow me to spend more valuable time with my family," said Piniella in the announcement.
