Even with another strong outing by Brandon Beachy, the Atlanta Braves were unable to get by the Philadelphia Phillies on May 1, losing by the score of 4-2. Antonio Bastardo picked up the win for the Phillies as Jonny Venters had his first loss of the year.

Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel decided that revisiting the old days was a good idea. While he had gotten good production from Juan Pierre so far this season, long-time leadoff man Jimmy Rollins has been languishing in the third spot and Hunter Pence was also struggling in the cleanup hole.

Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies, used to be known as a launching pad for home runs and some of the highest game scores Major League Baseball has ever seen. In recent years the Rockies have been using a humidor to offset the altitude and low humidity that helped to produce those crazy scores. However, on Friday night the Rockies went old school and broke out 18 runs against the Mets to win 18-9.
