The Atlanta Braves struggled against the Washington Nationals on Tueday night as they lost 6-3.  One area that you can look at is the 21 runners that were left on base by the Braves.  Usually if you leave that many runners on base, you will not win the game and that was the case with the Braves.

One bright spot for the Braves was Chipper Jones who hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.  Kelly Johnson and Matt Diaz had the other RBI’s for the Braves as they just never could get that big hit with runners on base that they needed to get.

Starting pitcher Tom Glavine pitched six innings and gave up six hits and two runs.  Glavine got the no decision in the game as Blaine Boyer gave up three hits and four runs to take the loss.  Boyer is now 0-3 on the season and really needs to pick things up.

The Atlanta Braves picked up a big win Thursday night as they beat the Florida Marlins 7-4.  The Braves record is now 11-11 on the season. Hopefully they can get over the .500 hump and pick up another win tomorrow against the Marlins.

Jeff Francoeur led the Braves as he had three RBI.  Matt Diaz had two RBI in the game as well.  Chipper Jones hit a solo home run in the second inning.  Mark Teixeira also had a RBI in the game for the Braves.

Chuck James tossed five innings to pick up the win.  James allowed four runs on five hits.  Jorge Campillo and Manny Acosta both tossed two inning to finish off the Marlins.

It was a good win for the Braves, and I look for them to have another good game tomorrow.

The Atlanta Braves got shutout by the Washington Nationals by the score of 6-0 on Tuesday night.  The Braves were only down 1-0 heading into the ninth inning, but the Nationals scored five runs in the ninth inning to put the game out of reach for the Braves.

The Braves hitters could never get the big hit to score any runs against the Nationals pitching staff.  Yunel Escobar and Matt Diaz both went 2-4 for in the game, but that was about all the offense that the Braves had in the game.

John Smoltz took the loss for the Braves after pitching seven innings.  Smoltz gave up seven hits and one earned run while striking out ten Nationals.  Smoltz became the 16th pitcher in major league history to reach 3,000 career strikeouts in the game.  Jorge Campillo gave up five runs in relief for the Braves.  Just a terrible outing by Campillo who needed to keep the game close so the Braves had a shot at coming back.

The Atlanta Braves got a win on Monday over the Washington Nationals by the score of 7-3 putting the Braves at 10-9 for the season.  It was a unified battlefront with great pitching and batting from the Atlanta bullpen and lineup.

Brian McCann got his fifth home run of the year in the 2nd inning off of Matt Chico giving him his 12th RBI of the season.  Tim Hudson had a pair of RBIs with Chipper Jones, Martin Prado, and Jeff Francoeur all getting an RBI as well.

Hudson was the starting pitcher for the Atlanta Braves throwing for 6.2 innings giving up 10 hits and two runs but was able to pick up the win putting him at 3-1 for the season.  Royce Ring, Buddy Carlyle, and Manny Acosta were brought in the finish out the last 2.1 innings of the game.  Carlyle was the only reliver to give up a run.

Tonight the Atlanta Braves battle the Washington Nationals in the second game of the two game series.

The Atlanta Braves got a big win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday allowing only five hits and one run with a 6-1 final score.  This puts Atlanta at a split 9-9 for the season and this is the fourth game in a row they have won including the three game sweep against the Dodgers.

Jair Jurrjens in now 2-2 for the year with the win over the Dodgers on Sunday.  He pitched a full seven innings giving up only 3 hits and 1 run.  Blaine Boyer and Will Ohman were brought in to the close out the night.

Kelly Johnson hit his 3rd home run of the year and Mark Teixeira hit his 4th home run as well.  Martin Prado and Mark Kotsay were also able to get and RBI each.

The Braves will welcome the Nationals at home in Atlanta on Monday to start a 2 game series.  Do you think they can stretch the winning streak to 5?

The Atlanta Braves destroyed the Flordia Marlins by the score of 8-0 on Thursday night.  Chipper Jones hit two home runs, Mark Teixeira and Brian McCann also hit home runs for the Braves.  Jones, Teixeira, and McCann went back-to-back-to-back in the fifth inning to blow the game wide open.

John Smoltz pitched five innings and only allowed three hits to pick up the win.  Will Ohman, Chris Resop, Manny Acosta, and Buddy Carlyle pitched the final four innings of the game without giving up a hit.   Great job by all the pitchers to limit the Marlins to only three hits on the night.

The Atlanta Braves lost to the Florida Marlins 6-5 on Wednesday night as their record dropped to 5-9 n the season.  The Braves just can’t seem to catch  any breaks and get on a good winning streak so far this season.  They are really struggling but I still think they will turn things around before it gets to late into the season.

Tim Hudson had a terrible outing for the Bravs as he only lated three innings and gave up four runs on six hits.  Jorge Campillo did a good job for the next three innings as he didn’t allow any runs but then Jeff Bennett came into the game and gave up three runs in one inning of action.  Blaine Boyer pitched the last inning of the game and did a pretty good job as he didn’t allow a run.

Yunel Escobar hit a two-run home run for the Braves but also grounded into three double plays.  Brian McCann and Matt Diaz both had one RBI each.

Do Braves fans think the this team can turn it around and get back into things? Let us know by leaving a comment!

The Atlanta Braves were shutout by the Flordia Marlins on Tuesday night by the score of 4-0.  The Braves just couldn’t get it going off Marlins starter Scott Olson as he shut down the Braves for the first seven innings before the Marlins bullpen finished the job.

Starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens took the loss for the Braves after tossing six inning and allowing four hits and two earned runs.  Jurrjens didn’t pitch to badly, he just didn’t get enough run support to stay in the game longer.  Relief pitcher Royce Ring gave up the other two earned runs.

Kelly Johnson and Chipper Jones both led the Braves with two hits each.  That was about it off the bats of the Braves.  They could never get a rally going and score any runs.

The Atlanta Braves hit and fielded well enough to win Bobby Cox said, but it was the terrible pitching that put them in a big hole early in the game that caused them to lose to the Colorado Rockies 12-6.  Now the Braves have to win on Thursday if they want to avoid being swept in a four game series.  Snow / Rain is in the forecast in Denver, so that might be the only thing that can save the Braves.

Chuck James who was activated from the 15-day disabled list before the game, gave up six runs in three innings in his first start of the season. James also hit three batters.  Jeff Bennett came in and pitched the next three innings and didn’t too badly despite giving up one earned run.  Chris Resop pitched the final two innings and was terrible once again.  Resop gave up five hits and five earned runs.

Brian McCann led the Braves at the plate as he hit a two run home run and also a double to hit in three runs.  Yunel Escobar, Chipper Jones, and Matt Diaz all finished the game with one RBI each.

So can the Braves avoid the sweep on Thursday?  We will have to wait and see but I think they will do it.
